The National Institute of Cancer is Ukraine’s leading patient care institution in the field of oncology. Children aged from 0 to 18 with all kinds of malignant tumors, often neglected cases, come here from throughout Ukraine.
Since May 1968, the Institute occupies three buildings in Lomonosova St. Primarily children’s wards were situated in various departments. In 1969, a separate children’s department was founded with bed capacity of 5. At present, the department has 4 wards for 5 patients each and five wards for two. One of the wards was converted into a transplantation OR for two.
The department has a surgery, room for medical procedures, dressing room, segregator room, kitchen, lobby/playroom, sanitary rooms, and an examination room at the clinic. Also, it has a boarding house with family rooms for 26. The department is fully integrated into the Institute and can use all its capacities.
Children’s department staff: 4 oncologists, 5 research fellows. Over Ukraine 3000 Foundation children from all Ukraine’s oblasts are treated at the department every year. Around 3,5000 patients a year turn to the consultation office.
