The Volyn Oblast Children’s Territorial Medical Association was founded January 20, 1997, on the basis of the Volyn Oblast Children’s Hospital and oblast cardio spa in the village of Zhabka (now the Dachny spa for children with parents and rehabilitation center for children with lesions of the nervous system and physically challenged children).

Total bed capacity – 390. The oblast children’s consultative clinic can receive 300 patients per one shift.

137 doctors specialized in 33 fields work at the hospital, 96 of them having qualification categories and five awarded with the title, Merited Doctor of Ukraine. The paramedical personnel numbers 450 people.

The hospital has implemented clinical protocols and is mastering new surgical methods. The clinic focuses on surgical corrections of birth defects in infants, mastering eye microsurgeries, diagnosing, and using laparoscopy. Early intervention and medical cum social rehabilitation methods are also being used on children with lesions of the nervous system.

The hospital introduces new methods for neuro-physiological, cardiovascular, and ultrasonic examinations, along with immunological, microbiological, and genetic laboratory tests. A database of X-ray examinations data is being created on digital carriers.

The Volyn Oblast Children’s Territorial Medical Association has an extensive experience in establishing international contacts. Thus, for fifteen years the hospital has been fruitfully cooperating with the Scandinavian Children’s Mission. In course of this cooperation it has received a considerable sum of donations. Children are being sent for health improvement to Aweden, Denmark, and Norway on an annual basis. With the support from the Mission, eight patients have undergone correction of especially complicated congenital malformations abroad.

With the Support of the Children of Chornobyl International Foundation, the hospital has obtained medical equipment and apparatuses.

For six years, the hospital has been actively cooperating with the Ukrainian-Swiss Fund to Improve Perinatal Care in Ukraine. This cooperation is carried out in a number of areas:

• organizing educational work among oblast’s young residents;
• improving technical base of the neonatology unit;
• medical staff training;
• introducing new medical technologies (elaborating clinical protocol scenarios and analyzing data for further effective use of the resources);
• promoting the development of the medical equipment service system;
• implementing in practice and evaluating the telemedicine concept.

The hospital also takes part in the Ukrainian-American Children of Chornobyl Relief Program and Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Prevention Program (since 1999).

• Children’s Orthopedic and Trauma Department – 30 beds;
• Children’s Ophthalmology – 40 beds;
• Pediatrics 1 – 40 beds;
• Pediatrics 2 – 45 beds;
• Pediatrics 3 – 40 beds;
• Children’s Neurology – 30 beds;
• General Therapy – 35 beds;
• Neonatology – 50 beds;
• Minimally Invasive Diagnosing and Treatment Department – 10 beds.

The hospital has 21 beds for rendering first aid and intensive care, including 15 anesthetist beds for newborns and premature children.
