First Lady opens family wards

Kateryna Yushchenko took part in a ceremony to open renovated family wards at the children’s department of the National Cancer Institute.

In her speech, the First Lady said: “We now see the example of how businessmen and charities cooperate to help the country solve its most pressing social problems.”

Ihor Delov, Director General of McDonald’s Ukraine, Hrygoriy Klymnyuk, Head of the Children’s Cancer Department, and Andriy Myroshnychenko, Advisor to the Head of the Ukraine 3000 Supervisory Council, attended the ceremony.

Mrs. Yushchenko gave the department an icon and a traditional embroidered towel from her family’s private collection. Ukraine 3000 and Toy House presented toys.

On November 20, 2005, McDonald’s Ukraine raised UAH 404,000 in sixteen cities and towns throughout the country to reconstruct the complex of family wards.
