May 29, 2007, Head of the Ukraine 3000 Fund's Supervisory Board Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital.
Mrs. Kateryna was accompanied by Head of the Ternopil Oblast State Administration Ivan Stoyko, sign language translator of the TSN-Novyny news show at the Studio 1+1 Channel Natalia Dmytruk, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk, and Director of the Hospital to Hospital program Vira Pavliuk.
Kateryna Yushchenko was given a tour of the hospital premises, visited the Neonatology and Early Medical and Social Rehabilitation for Children with Lesions of the Central Nervous System and Congenital Pathology Centers, water treatment room, EEG and functional diagnosing room, and breastfeeding rooms for newborns.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 Fund, Mrs. Yushchenko passed over to the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital a children’s bronchoscope with a halogen lamp (Pentax Company), portable electric breast pump (Weimann Company, Germany), and a first aid kit. The total cost of the equipment equals approximately UAH 100,000. Mrs. Kateryna also delivered development games, toys, and books for the playrooms, totaling around UAH 3,000.
Chief Physician of the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital Hryhory Korytsky thanked Mrs. Yushchenko for the presents and assured her that the equipment would work for the good of Ternopil oblast children. The hospital staff also gave Mrs. Yushchenko a set of children’s books.
Mrs. Kateryna met with members of the Board of Trustees of the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital. She emphasized that the Ternopil Board of Trustees is one of the most proactive. She said that the Ukraine 3000 Fund had initiated creating similar boards at all Hospital to Hospital Program member hospitals, whose work helps to solve many urgent problems without waiting for state support. Since the foundation of the Board of Trustees, the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital has received from private persons and the Gift of Life (the USA) and Children of Chornobyl (Canada) charitable organizations beneficent aid totaling almost UAH 300,000.
Besides, Mrs. Kateryna met with medical personnel of the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital. She described to them the Hospital to Hospital program and emphasized that the Ternopil Hospital is one of its best members. “We are proud to work with your hospital and try to not only give you financial aid but also seek partners who would render the hospital permanent help in training specialists and mastering innovative technologies,” she said. Mrs. Kateryna also spoke about the Children’s Hospital of the Future project.
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund cooperates with the Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital within the framework of two big-scale projects.
The hospital participates in the Hospital to Hospital Program since September 2005. During this period, it has received medical equipment and medicine totaling around UAH 59,000. Besides, as part of this program, Head of the Early Medical and Social Rehabilitation for Children with Lesions of the Central Nervous System and Congenital Pathology Center N. Svirska has undergone training in US.
The Ternopil Oblast Community Children’s Clinical Hospital also is winner of the First All-Ukrainian Grant Competition for Treatment and Rehabilitation Institutions for Children with Cerebral Palsy held as a part of the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s and TNK BP Ukraine’s joint program, Joy of the Childhood: Free Movements. The hospital has received a grant for 50,000 hryvnias for purchasing swimming pool equipment.
