June 13, 2007, Head Physician of the Children’s Clinical Hospital at the Ministry of Health of the Crimean Autonomous Republic Oleksandr Astakhov and Head Physician of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital Radyslav Koturbash were given the rank of Merited Doctors of Ukraine by President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. In course of a ceremony dedicated to the Day of Medical Worker, the head of the Ukrainian state presented state awards and decorations to Ukrainian medical workers.
In his greeting address the President emphasized that the medical sphere was under the state’s rapt attention. “This is one of the most complicated spheres which definitely need reform, and this reform will require huge funds,” he said. President Yushchenko believes that the reform in the health sphere has to envisage introducing new financial and administrative mechanisms. Today we need to secure steady development of the healthcare system, carry out an adequate medical reform, and forward a broad-scale promotion of the healthy lifestyle, he said.
