December 19, 2007, a beneficial dinner was given in Mykolayiv by deputy of the Mykolayiv Oblast Rada, former Mykolayiv oblast governor, and head of the Mykolayiv Oblast Children’s Hospital’s Board of Trustees Oleksandr Sadykov. Leaders of Mykolayiv-based industrial and agricultural enterprises, local bank offices, businesspeople, and oblast Rada deputies attended the event.

The dinner raised UAH 122,000 earmarked for a treatment course for two Mykolayiv children, victims of a car fire, and equipping a reanimobile. The car itself, a brand-new Mercedes Benz with an extended wheel base, was passed that same night to Mykolayiv Oblast Children’s Hospital’s Head Physician Dmytro Hotsuliak. The funds for this purchase were raised at Mr. Sadykov’s last year’s beneficial dinner. The reanimobile is badly needed in the oblast to promptly transport premature and sick newborns from country regions to the Mykolayiv ICU.

The entrance fee was UAH 2,500. Children entertained the guests with musical acts. The hall was decorated with children’s paintings by oblast boarding school and orphanage wards and paintings made by the hospital’s little patients in their art therapy classes.

Director of the Medical Programs Department with the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Vira Pavliuk sent a greeting list to the participants of the event. She thanked Mr. Sadykov for his active participation in the fundraising process for the Mykolayiv Oblast Children’s Hospital, participant of the Fund’s Hospital to Hospital program. “Giving this beneficial dinner on St. Nicholas’s Day, you have set an example for all Ukrainian community. Your activity as head of the hospitals’ Board of Trustees should serve as a model for all Boards of Trustees of the Hospital to Hospital program’s member hospitals,” the letter reads.

The event featured a beneficial auction with paintings by 3- and 4-year-old children from the Mykolayiv Orphanage for lots. In the end, the guests started bidding for the paintings decorating the hall walls. Head of the Ahrosvit Agricultural Firm Ihor Brychenko (village of Novopetrivka, Sniguriv district) bought a drawing by a kid from a boarding school at his native village. The entrepreneur has long been helping this institution on his own initiative.

In addition to children’s paintings, the auction offered dishes painted by Volodymyr Bakhtovy, renowned Mykolayiv-based artist and owner of the Grand Palais Salon’s Silver medal (France). The artist was decorating the dishes immediately at the banquet hall.

The gem of the night was traditional Italian dishes cooked by the host: seafood pasta and mushroom risotto. In course of cooking Mr. Sadykov introduced his guests to the history of the Italian cuisine and then treated them to the freshly cooked dishes.

At the dinner, Mr. Sadykov announced the creation of his own charitable fund. “My team and I believe that charity isn’t a short-term thing, and we are prepared to play St. Nicholas’s helpers more often than once a year. The goals of the fund are evident: helping whoever needs our help,” Mr. Sadykov explained.
