January 23, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the National Cancer Institute children’s department.
The visit was part of the Dreams Come True action. On the eve of the winter holidays, the Foundation had distributed among the seriously ill children, treated at two institutions, forms for wish lists for St. Nicholas. Having processed part of these letters, December 19, on St. Nicholas’s Day, the Foundation members visited the OKHMATDIT Children’s Onco-Hematology and Marrow Transplantation Center, giving the kids the presents they dreamed about and arranging for some meetings with celebrities.
The present event was meant to grant the wishes of the National Cancer Institute children’s department little patients. Today they got a visit from renowned singer Tina Karol and participants of the project. The children, of course, also received presents they dreamed about.
Tina Karol read out an excerpt from the Cobweb’s Great Adventures fairy tale she wrote a year ago. Also, the singer gave all those present signed postcards and notepads.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kateryna visited the wards and talked to the little patients unable to make it to the lobby, and to their parents. Also, Mrs. Kateryna held a brief meeting with Director of the National Cancer Institute Borys Shchepotin and head of the children’s department Hryhory Klimniuk, who told her about the institution’s problems and attainments.
Eventually, participants of Star Factory 2 joined the event: Rehina, Lina, and Mitsuki, Alisa Tarabarova and Olena Vinohradova of the REAL O group, and Borys Apriel. They came to see 16-year-old Khrystyna and 17-year-old Yana, whose dream was to meet the Star Factory 2 participants. The young artists presented a small concert, singing and dancing together with the children. Also, they gave Khrystyna and Yana some souvenirs.
The event organizers’ best reward was the children’s smiles and elevated mood. They were very happy with their presents and started playing with them immediately. Older children and parents were eager to talk and make photos with their renowned guests. “We will keep doing all we can to make your lives a little easier,” Mrs. Yushchenko told the children.
